Make Room For Joy!

Updated: Dec 13, 2017

"When you recover or discover something that nourishes your soul and brings joy, care enough about yourself to make room for it in your life" - Jean Shinoda Bolen

Moments of joy in our life bring feelings of happiness and delight.  Joy is what we hope for, look forward to, and count on to counter the challenging and somewhat mundane aspects of our lives.  We can get through the hardship, through a Monday, or through a traffic jam if we believe there is some joy at the end of the rainbow.

Moments of joy can feel fleeting and tend to slip through our fingers just as quickly as they come, we still will do almost anything to experience a pure moment of joy.

It doesn’t matter that moments of joy can feel fleeting and tend to slip through our fingers just as quickly as they come, we still will do almost anything to experience a pure moment of joy. The good news is that we don’t always have to wait for joy to fall out of the sky, we actually have the power to create more moments of joy in our lives.

These are just a few tips to create more moments of joy in your life.

  1.     Get out in nature

  2.     Count your blessings

  3.     Play with your pet

  4.     Sing out loud

  5.     Get lost in a good book

  6.     Pay a compliment to a stranger

  7.     Exercise

  8.     Meditate and enjoy the silence

  9.     Take a nap

  10.    Watch a sunrise or a sunset

Understanding your natural talents is another great way to find joy!

Understanding your natural talents is another great way to find joy.  When you understand how you are uniquely wired, you gain valuable information into how to create more moments of joy in your life.  When you understand what gives you energy and what you need to be motivated, you have the power to tap into these sources every single day.

Here’s how it works:

If your energy comes from achieving goals, you can create moments of joy in your day by writing down a few small things you want to accomplish by the end of the day. Every time you check off an item on your list, pause for a moment to enjoy that feeling of accomplishment, knowing you achieved a goal you set for yourself for that day.

If you are motivated by creating moments of peace and calm for yourself and others, spend a few minutes in the morning thinking about how you can infuse a few of those moments into your day.  You could set aside time to walk outside for 10 minutes and feel the sunshine on your face, listen to the birds chirp, or find a flower to marvel at its beauty.  Or, look for opportunities to bring peace to a friend or co-worker when they seemed stressed or overwhelmed.  Sharing your ability to create calmness with yourself and others will infuse your day with a bit more joy.
